The Charlestown Shipwreck treasure Museum sale
& The shipwreck archive of Richard Larn OBE

one week, two extraordinary sales

We are absolutely thrilled to announce that we have been asked to sell the contents of Charlestown Shipwreck Treasure Museum, one the most phenomenal collections of marine archeology anywhere in the world.
It is a gargantuan task but a very, very exciting one, as the museum is literally crammed full of the most extraordinary artefacts. Some, many hundreds of years old and hugely rare and valuable, others much more modern but still with a story to tell about the shipwreck from which they came, and it is these stories that have been exciting us the most whilst we’ve been cataloguing.

We have been learning about the history of each ship, how it was wrecked, the lives that were lost, and the experiences of those people in their last terrifying few minutes. It has been an equally educational and humbling experience.

All the shipwreck sites are testament to those people and we feel very honoured to be handling their possessions, some perhaps mundane and personal, but yet extremely poignant when we consider how they come to come to be at the museum.

In the same week as this extraordinary sale we will also be holding a sale of the archive of the legendary wreck diver Richard Larn OBE, the man who first put together the initial collection of the Charlestown Shipwreck Museum in the 1960s and 70s. His archive consists of 1,630 books, extensive research files from the monumental ten-year project of the Lloyd's Shipwreck Index, charts, and hundreds of photographs used in Richard's numerous works, also includes a carefully curated selection of artifacts that Richard personally salvaged and cherished.
It promises to be an incredible week, with many remarkable items and is possibly two of the most exciting sales we’ve ever been asked to handle.
